The mayor of Estevelles has announced his gender reassignment. Born a man, he wants to continue his life as a woman.
That makes him the first politician that undergoes gender change during his office, Valeurs Actuelles reports.
“From Friday on, I will have my desired appearance”, Estelle Szabo -born as Alain- said to the City Council on Wednesday, as reported by Le Parisien. The Council met to vote on a motion about Szabo continuing her mandate as a woman. By the end of the meeting, they had approved her request.
Gender change illegal in Bulgaria, says Supreme Court
After the vote, the mayor decided to make her gender transition public. She says she is happy that the municipal council “renewed its confidence in me”. She said that she wanted to make clear that “one can be a person with a difference, not necessarily always accepted today, and exercise a political function.”
