Pope: Eternal youth is an illusion

The desire to remain young is prominent in modern society. However, Pope Francis criticised the “delusional” presumption of the ability to stop ageing. Instead, he defended the value of elderly people to the community and the Church.

We cannot stop time; the desire for eternal youth, unlimited well-being and absolute power is delusional, the Pope warned the gathered pilgrims in the Paul VI Auditorium during his weekly public hearing. That is reported by Agencia Ecclesia.

According to the Pope, pilgrims should remember that life “is destined to go beyond, through the passage of death.” Therefore, he said, imaginary earthly perfection is to be rejected.” He added that the progression of time should be seen as a promise, not a threat.

“Old age is a promise”

In addition, Pope Francis said that old age is noble and “does not need make-up.” According to the head of the Roman Catholic Church, old age is the best phase of life to spread “the good news that life is an initiation to a definitive realisation.” He sees old people as promises that the best is yet to come.
