The question of whether Russian President Putin’s grandchildren have been baptised is a private matter. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov has no answer to it.
This was reported by the Russian news agency Ria Novosti on 19 January. He answered affirmatively when asked if Peskov's wife Tatyana Navka and his daughter were baptised. “Yes. Although this is also my personal space”, Peskov said.
President Putin himself was baptised in his year of birth, 1952. It happened in secret during the reign of former Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. At least, that is what the Russian president stated in 2012, after a Christmas celebration in the St. Petersburg cathedral where the baptism allegedly took place. Putin's mother and a neighbour reportedly took little Vladimir to the cathedral to be baptised in secret. Putin's father, a member of the Communist Party, would not have known about it.
